Abstract The Brazilian Classification of Occupation (CBO) is a document that recognizes, nominates and codifies headings and contents of the national work market occupations. It has as function, as much to serve as basic instrument of information to indicate the conformation of the work market, as for definition and execution of politics and programs of balance of this market. It is destined to the development of studies and research on work market, job politics and professional formation, orientation for definition and technological investments. It also serves as informative base for the demographic censuses. At last, it consists of a source of information on all the existing occupations in the Brazilian work market. This article searches to establish a comparison between the CBO/94 and the CBO/2000, focusing the attention in health occupations, evidencing significant changes that can signal transformations in the work market and, finally, to center the analysis in the nursing occupations, raising prospective questions on the set of these occupations.
